Family: Son of Nkombi, sibling to Kelly, Mish, Reine, Phoenix and Cori


Willis was born on the reserve and is Nkombi’s sixth calf. He is named after Professor Stephen Willis, a lecturer from Durham University.

Willis was pushed away from Nkombi at the early age of 1.5 years and attached himself to a surrogate mother, Mish, who took him under her wing. After Mish gave birth to Madolo in 2016, Willis became the youngest member to join the beloved “Naughty 6”, a herd of rhino that stayed together and acted quite cheeky.

Due to the early displacement from his mother, Willis has always been quite a needy rhino; that is until Nkombi charged him with taking care of his younger brother Phoenix. Along with his brother Phoenix, Willis has become a very curious rhino and is often seen approaching people on foot or approaching the reserve vehicles.
