Date of Arrival: 2nd July 2021 Sex: Female Family: Mother to Nico
Sally came to the reserve with her year-old calf, Nico, in July 2021, and we believe she was in her early 30’s at the time of her arrival.
Sally initially struggled with the translocation and appeared to struggle with foraging in a new environment. This difficulty led to her not producing enough milk, which made Nico quite tired a lot of the time. The decision was made to supplementary feed Sally to help her through this difficult time, and she took to the Lucerne bails very quickly. We believe she may have been supplementary fed on her previous reserve.
Sally is not doing much better and so is her cheeky calf, Nico. Once she improved, we stopped the supplementary feed during the wet season. She is now very confident with people and often walks up to vehicles and gets very close to staff, some days blocking Lynne in her house. She has such a sweet and inquisitive nature, while being a very protective mother. No one messes with Sally and good luck to the rhino that tries to touch her lucerne!!
