Nkombi
Date of Arrival: 20th December 1994
Sex: Female
Family: Mother to Kelly, Rocky, Winnie, Mish, Reine, Willis, Phoenix, Leo and Corrine
Nkombi was one of the first five rhinos brought onto the reserve on the 20 December 1994. Since her arrival, Nkombi has birthed six girls and three boys, the majority of which are still on the reserve, with the exception of Rocky and Winnie. Rocky was relocated and Winnie was one of five rhinos brutally killed by poachers who illegally entered our reserve in 2014.
Nkombi is often seen alone with her calves, but she does periodically join up with the sub-adults and males but only for short periods of time. We all adore Nkombi. She is wise and calm and definitely the matriarch of our herd.
