Nico’s previous home was hit by poachers in June 2021, and this meant that him and his mum had to be moved to a safe place. Both him and his mum were very skinny on arrival, but their conditions are improving every day. He is a very relaxed rhino and very curious, coming very close to cars and observers on foot. Nico is named after Nico Jacobs, pilot and co-founder of Rhino 911, who has been such a support for ERC and continues to assist with the rhino’s protection and support the ERC team. Nico is less active than our other calves, and he spends a lot of his day sleeping. However, as he settles in, we hope he find the joy and playfulness that all our other rhino calves enjoy.
