Family: Son of Nkombi, brother to Kelly, Mish, Reine, Winnie, Rocky, Willis, Phoenix, Leo and Corri
Dawson’s arrival came as a surprise to the team. We had given up hope of Nkombi giving birth to another calf, as she is getting quite old. Nkombi has always been amazingly “regular”, giving birth approximately every 2 years, and Corri, Nkombi’s last baby, was born 3 years ago. So, when Dawson arrived, he was a miracle calf. He was born on the birthday of our Research Coordinator, Melissa Dawson. Melissa lost her father (Kevin Dawson) suddenly in January 2023. In honour of him and Melissa’s grandad who passed away in April 2022, Lynne kindly named Nkombi’s new baby “Dawson”. Dawson is a living legacy to the Dawson family and will continue to bring Melissa’s family joy and comfort as he grows.
Dawson is a sturdy little rhino. He is confident and independent and is exhibiting signs of becoming a strong and dominant bull one day. He is blessed with a competent and loving mother who takes the very best care of him.
